How do I vote for my candidate?

You can vote in the 2008 Smiley Primary and Smiley Presidential election by doing one of the following political actions:

- Add your favorite presidential candidate graphics and smileys to your website!

- Send your favorite presidential candidate smileys through email or instant messages!

Each time you add a graphic or smiley to your webpage or blog -- or send a smiley through email or IM -- you will be casting one vote for your candidate. And unlike in the real election, you can vote as often as you want!

How do I add a presidential candidate graphic or smiley to my webpage or blog?

To add a presidential graphic or smiley to your website or blog, first select your candidate or party from our Decision 2008 homepage. Then find the graphic or smiley you wish to add within the candidate's section, and right-click on the code window underneath it on the Decision 2008 page. Then choose "Select All" from the dropdown menu that appears over the window.

Open your website or profile page, find the section where you want your smiley or graphic to appear - and then right-click on your mouse and paste the copied code into that area.

If you're having trouble adding a graphic or smiley using this method, head on over to Webfetti.com and click on Decision 2008 in the upper navigation bar.

Find the graphic or smiley you wish to add -- and then follow Steps 2 and 3 on the following pages for your specific network: MySpace | Zwinky | Blogger | Hi5

Where can I find presidential candidate smileys in Smiley Central?

If you want to have access to the presidential candidate smileys through Smiley Central, you'll need to download the Smiley Central toolbar if you haven't done so already. You can download the toolbar here. As a bonus, you'll get Cursor Mania™, Popular Screensavers™, My Fun Cards™, and the MyWebSearch search box.

1. After downloading the toolbar, open your Smiley Central application window by clicking on the Smiley icon in your web browser or IM window. If you're using Outlook/Outlook Express as your email client, you should see the icon at the top of your screen.

2. Navigate to the presidential candidate smileys by clicking on "People" in the left navigation column within your Smiley Central window. Then select "US Presidential Candidates" at the top of the window.

3. Click on the party of the candidate you wish to vote for on the ensuing screen.

How do I send presidential candidate smileys through an instant messaging program?

To add a presidential candidate smiley to your instant message, click the Smiley Central button located in the top-right corner of the Windows client version of your AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger. (Don't see a Smiley Central button? Follow the directions here.)

Choose the smiley you'd like to use from the dropdown menu by following these directions. After clicking on a smiley icon within your Smiley application, you will see something like this in your instant messaging compose box:
 @[smiley: Hi Ya : [15/15_1_70]]

This is code that tells your IM client to display your smiley as an icon once you click Send. Go ahead and try it. Send your message and the code will convert to the smiley icon that you and your friend will be able to see.

IMPORTANT: If your friend does not yet have Smiley Central, he/she will see the smiley code rather than the icon. Your buddy will need to download Smiley Central in order to see the icon. From time to time, we include a brief message and a link to Smiley Central when your friend receives a message from you in which you have attempted to insert a Smiley.

If after installation you are not seeing the toolbar in your IM window, please reboot your computer at this time. If you are still not seeing the toolbar after rebooting, please contact customer support using the "Ask A Question" tab above.

If you are only seeing code while sending Smileys using MSN Messenger, click here.

What if I don't like any of the Democrats or Republicans?

If you don't like any of the current or former Democratic or Republican candidates for President, you can vote for one of our "Smiley Independents."

Currently, Johnny Waves - Smiley Central's own resident surfer dude from California - is competing against talk show host Stephen Colbert and Independent presidential candidate / consumer advocate Ralph Nader in the "Smiley Independents" primary contest.

You can vote for Johnny, Stephen or Ralph by navigating down to the "Smiley Independents" tally on the Decision 2008 homepage and clicking on their campaign buttons -- or simply by visiting our Independent candidates page.
